Mask Inspired Tutorial!

Hey friends!

Today, I have something sort of different up my sleeve! The folks of HalloweenCostumes.com contacted me recently about creating a fun nail tutorial based on some of their products. I thought, "What a cool idea!" and I've created a Mardi Gras-esque look based on one of their colorful masks!

This one, to be exact =]

Let's get this tutorial started!

You will need:

Base and topcoat

White polish base

At least 3 colors of your choice (I've chosen Zoya Ziv, Ivanka, and Mimi)

Gradient supplies (I normally like to use makeup sponges, but for this mani I used an eye shadow applicator)

Paint palette - I usually use post-its =]!

Dotting tool

Clean-up supplies - cotton swaps, small brush, acetone, or whatever you like to use

1. Apply base coat, let dry.

 2. Apply solid white base. Allow to dry thoroughly.

3. Gradient time!
At this point, create your gradient in whatever way suits you. I normally use this method, but for this tutorial I decided to use an eye shadow applicator. I'll go through the steps below...

4. Use eye shadow applicator to apply first color to third of your nail.
Attempt to apply the color lightly, so it sort of fades out.

5. Apply second color to middle third of the nail.
Again, attempt to apply lightly so it fades. Do your best to make the colors blend together! The less harsh the line, the better!

6. Apply last color to final third of the nail.
Once again, blend!

7. Do a blending once-over!
Go back and touch up any spots that need more color or further blending.

8. Use dotting tool to apply large dots side by side on the tip of your nail.
Use the color that began at your cuticle. I liked adding more gold =]!

9. Once dry, add smaller dots to the center of the larger ones on the tip of your nail.
This should resemble scalloping detail, like the trim found on the mask =]

10. Add topcoat and allow to dry.

11. Clean it up!
I like to use this method and q-tips for the messy areas =]!

There you have it! Take a looksie at your masterpiece =]!

I was also sent these fun feather boas, see how cool they look with my mani?!

My new friends at HalloweenCostumes.com were really attentive and fun through this experience! The customer service was spot on. I learned this firsthand when my package had been roughed up in transit and the poor (first) mask didn't survive the trip =/ I was quickly sent a new mask, which is the one you see in my photos. The quality isn't perfect...keep in mind that these are costume pieces and not meant for every day wear. However, if you're looking for something fun for Halloween, a costume party, or just a silly night on the town, be sure to check out HalloweenCostumes.com!

I hope you liked this spunky design! Have an amazing day!

♥,
Lindsey
